MONTRÉAL – MP Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe (Pierrefonds‒Dollard) took part today in a one-day fast to mark Hunger Awareness Week, an experience she called “difficult, but necessary.”
Blanchette-Lamothe responded to a call to all Canadian parliamentarians as part of Hunger Awareness Week. “I wanted to express my solidarity with this very important cause,” explained the MP. “Going an entire day without eating is difficult, but necessary to better understand the situation of our poorest citizens. Having worked with people living in poverty myself, I am particularly sensitive to this cause.”
Nearly 900,000 Canadians used food banks in the past month, according to figures provided by Hunger Awareness Week.
Quebec New Democrat MPs Denis Blanchette, Charmaine Borg, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Pierre Jacob, Hoang Mai, Élaine Michaud, Dany Morin also participated in today’s fast.
